Let's go braless

I'm sure this topic elicites ,smiles and surprised looks alike.
A garment that been a essential part of women's wardrobe, a garment that apparently accentuates the features is sure ; a tough thought to discard.

But , do we know that the ever tight bra can also be contributing cause to breast cancer.
I make no claims to pinpointing the poor bra as a sole cause, but it can add upto it.

So why can't we go braless

I need to look no further for inspiration than our beloved grandma's for discarding the bras ...if we look back at our growing up years, it wouldn't be hard to recall them not wearing bra at all.
Their indian attire , just managed them all.
Talk about saree, it has a blouse to go along and salwar kameez was always worn with a dupatta. So bra necessarily was not needed.

Most dresses can be wore  elegantly , and still not highlight the non usage of bra. Many tribal women walk with indomitable spirit without the bra too, like the trials  of Africa and Lambani tribes in India, to name a few.

It would be interesting to know , the bra was initially designed by European women; who wanted freedom their figure hugging corset.

The corset, apparently did some damage to some internal organs too. So the bra, then came in as a saviour . But then, evolution and time, made bra get more tight and asphyxiating, making it equally bad as the corset it replaced .

For all the avid readers, a book, DRESS TO KILL by Sydney Ross Singer and Soma Grismaijer may throw up interesting insights to the way bra has over the years had a strangle hold on our lives.

As much many would even want to think of chucking the bra away, there would be questions arising too. The thought of sagging breast would be so scary, that we might just not want to think any further.

The sagging breasts can be held upright with yoga and exercises. We will discuss about it in detail on our next blog.

We can use slips or camisole for indian and western wear alike and manage pretty well . The saree blouse will take care of the saree and we are sorted at that front too.

As far as the western outfits go, the nipple patches could be put to use. They would cover it up and  make the dresses as  seamless as can be.

Our main roadblock in going braless is the thought of how we would look , in not wearing one. The societal gaze worries us to bits. The ever daunting thought of how others ( both men and women) would look at us and the constant stare can get quite discomforting .

It would take a while for people to get used to the change , but feeling confident in one's own skin is the first step in respecting our bodies . Letting our body breathe should be our priority. We would all be in unison, to agree that no bra is a comfort too . Comfort and health is a wonderful combination...So lets get adventurous

Let's go braless
